Class Project
I mentioned in an earlier posting that Maddie has been selected by her teacher as the first Star Student of the year. Mrs. Meier sent home a poster board and asked that we cover it with bits of relevant "All About Me" information.
After talking about the project, Maddie and I decided we want to make it unique... cutting out the basic, "This is me at Disney World. This is me banging a drum. This is me with a gaping head-wound. This is me giving a high-five to John Corbett of tv's Northern Exposure."What I'd like from those of you who know Madeleine - in any capacity - is to send a quick note or write a comment regarding who Maddie is to YOU, then we'll include those comments as part of her project.

I love Maddie. She is smart, witty, independent, full of spirit, respectful, silly, determined,... I could go on and on, but the truth of the matter is that being around Maddie and observing her in all of her child-like ways, is just like being around her Mom, when her Mom was that age. It's a little creepy, but comforting. Because if Maddie keeps acting like her Mom, then I know that Maddie will most certainly grow up to continue to be a beatiful human being, inside and out.
A beautiful smile, that slightly impish twinkle in thoes beautiful eyes. Madelein has a way of taking over a room. Her laughter, her attitude. She is a wonderful artist and a loving daughter. She means that there is never a dull moment, and something is always right around the corner.
MaddieLo is a very out going, extroverted child. She’ll take over a room with or without people in it! She's mischievous and funny. She's a tough and does sports - softball, gymnastics, dance, soccer. She's soft and cuddles really well.
I have learned so much from Maddie. She has taught me how to laugh at myself and how wonderful the "Recess" movies are and how much fun playing with a slinky or two or three can be. I miss seeing her every other day now that her mom and I don't work together anymore, but I think about her giant grin and infection giggle when I see her picture in my wallet. She is a blessing!
I don't know Maddie very well, but she was talking in complete sentences at the age of one-and-a-half. She's an impressive little girl who strives for greatness in all she does. Good luck, Maddie!
Maddie is a part of my life because she is my Goddaughter's daughter and is she ever her Mother's daughter, God Bless her!
She is a very precocious child, much like her mother was. All indications are that she will be very much like her mother as she grows older, too. (Which is not a bad thing.) Maddie loves to be the life of the party, the center of attention. She is very inquisitive, eager to learn and rarely have I seen her in a bad mood. She seems to take life in at every moment.
Maddie is Nana's precious princess. She is so very intelligent and she lights up when she talks and it is fun to watch her eyes speak to you. Maddie loves to be with the "cousins" - three little girls - and they play act, sing, dance, amuse each other, and giggle and Maddie is the "giggliest"! Maddie is a shining star, twinkling for all to see. She will go far in this world and will far exceed even our fondest hopes for her.

I wanted to leave a comment about Maddie, but I have only been around her a few times. I can't match the level of poeticness of the other comments other than to say that she is definitely completely adorable and she blew me away at how smart she is that time in the church hallway when she read me an entire book.
I hope you display those other comments for her always too see.
From Katrina and Andy:
Where to begin? Maddie is such a complex individual, but I suppose the most memorable mental picture of Maddie that we have is on our wedding day. She was the most adorable little ring bearer we'd ever seen. She did her part to make our special day that much more remarkable. We've been in and out of her life as we've been in and out of Iowa, but it's always been amazing to see the way Maddie has grown, developed and changed in out times apart. We've learned a new Chinese phrase recently: Maddie is "hen ke ai" or very cute! Keep up the cuteness!
Maddie's curiosity and love of the world around her are so inspiring to me.
Maddie is surrounded by family and friends that truly love her.
Maddie is smart and very witty.Sometimes when she is sitting quietly you can almost see the gears turning inside her head and you know that within a few minutes, she is going to spring up and start a new adventure...
I love Maddie very much.
Maddie is a kind, generous, loving person. After a six mile run and looking all sweaty and tired Maddie is always there with a tall glass of ice water in hand. You don't even have to ask, she just knows.
Maddie is a silly little girl who always puts a smile on your face. She is always happy. I don't think I have ever seen her in a bad mood.
Maddie is a great cheering section. If she sees you while out running she always has to yell out a friendly "hello!" Always puts an extra jump in my step and a smile on my face.
Finally, Maddie is all around a great kid who is surrounded by many people who love and care for her, which has made her that much sweater of a person. She is a "star" in my eyes.
Maddie, you make me want to be a better person. I love you!
Oh where to start? she is a great addition to the Smith family. She has brought great joy to her mother and extended family. Her presence in the family is truly a blessing. I can't wait to see the woman you become. Keep reaching for all your goals, NEVER give up!!
