Nine Things:

1.) Money is not the root of all evil. The love of money is the root of all evil. C'mon... get it straight!

2.) What is the ideal gift for a good male friend who is turning 30?

3.) I like meeting new people. I'd like a job where all I have to do is meet new people... and build networks of like-minded people. I may have that job soon (keep your fingers crossed).

4.) I met a 19-month-old kid named Killian over the weekend. He was hilarious and adorable, but he didn't the like the green-apple flavored sucker I gave him. The sad thing was, I spent too much of my time thinking how great he'd be with Becky's 18-month-old daughter Alexandra. I'm a freak! They're still babies! <hanging head in shame... with a smirk, of course>

5.) Ecclesiastes is my absolute favorite book of the Bible. Some say it's depressing, but I think it's a work of unparalleled genius and realization.

6.) Don't get me wrong, Desperate Housewives is an ok show, but why do so many news/talk shows feel it necessary to spend time rehashing each week's episode as if life depended on it? It's hyperbolic fiction! It's irrelevant as a news topic... and Grey's Anatomy is a better show.

7.) Goat cheese crumbled into Belgian Waffle batter, then baked (in a Belgian Waffle-maker) is pretty good! I'd like to try it again sometime with a little more cheese.

8.) I have a recent problem of leaving my cell phone in my car. It makes people mad. It makes me happy.

9.) 2001: A Space Odyssey - an explanation.

for #2 - having recently turned 30 myself that is a tough call.

As for the media's obsession with Desperate Housewives, I am pretty sick of it. Good Morning America can't spend a morning without spending way too much time discussing it (like we all care!)

I have started watching the BBC for my morning news. Not a lot of local news, but NO DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES!! :)

I think for a male turning 30, you can't go wrong with Star Wars, Episode III (Widescreen) or
Beavis & Butt Head Volume 1 on DVD or a new iPod, depending on how good of a friend.

I would suggest not getting him a present that screams "WOW - you've just turned 30!!" Get him a book. Or some music. Or gift certificate to a restaurant. OOOOhhh, I almost forgot. This was actually my favorite present when I turned 30 (a mere 10 1/2 months ago). My sis got me the season of friends where the "gang" celebrated Rachel's 30th birthday. It was hysterical - they did flashbacks to everyone else's 30th, too. That was a great present! Might not be perfect for a boy - but you never know ...

About turning 30: I'm on the cusp and I suppose that the gift depends on the individual. For the thoughtful 30 year-old I think that a good gift might be a journal. That way he can record his thoughts on turning 30, his recollection of the previous 30 years and his anticipation of the next 30. Especially because then he can look back on it when he turns 40 and laaauuuugggghhh.

And you're right. Gray's Anatomy is much better than Desperate Housewives.
